Guildhall Museum & Jail (Old Guildhall Museum & Gaol)

Guildhall Museum & Jail (Old Guildhall Museum & Gaol)

The collection charts the Heritage and Development of Looe as an important port servicing both fishing and mining industry and the transformation of the town into a major tourist centre. One of our most popular displays is that of Looe Island. Recently featured on Time Team, the island Chapel site, combined with a nearby mainland monastic site excites a lot of interest. The subsequent history of the Island from smugglers to the Atkins sisters is well documented.
